Quiet is specified, not hoped for

Code has almost nothing to say about sound inside a single-family house. So the drawings do.

Where we draw it

Every interior partition is labelled on plan: insulated or not, solid core or not. Guest suites, the primary suite, laundry, mechanical, the shop bay and any room with a television are treated as acoustic rooms.

What goes in

Mineral wool in partitions rather than nothing. Solid-core doors with proper stops. Duct runs planned so two rooms do not share a straight path. Plumbing walls moved off bedroom headboards before framing, not after.

The test

A guest suite and a great room in use at the same hour, with the door closed and nobody lowering their voice. If that holds, the specification worked.

“Code has almost nothing to say about sound inside a house. So the drawings do.”
